Introduction to Sheltered Homes
Sheltered Homes provide accommodation to ambulant seniors who have no alternative living arrangements. These seniors are capable of taking care of their activities of daily living and do not have family support or unable to live with their families because of a breakdown in relationships.
Services Provided
The services may include:
Conduct exercise sessions for residents
Assist the residents in day-to-day activities/ errands whenever necessary, such as translating letters and escorting them to clinics
Assist the residents in financial matters, such as applying for grants or benefits provided by the government whenever applicable
Provide the necessary support for residents with identified social / emotional needs, and make referrals to counselling agencies or community services to support the residents
How to Apply
A senior applying to stay in a Sheltered Home must be:
- Aged 60 years and above;
- A Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident of Singapore;
- Certified by doctor to be fit for communal living and/or participation in communal activities;
- Capable of taking care of his/ her activities of daily living (i.e. Category 1 or low Category 2 as determined by Resident Assessment Form);
- Without family support or network or unable to live with his/ her family due to estranged relationships and Without any rental or purchased property in his/ her name, except if he/ she is in crisis.
Means-tested subsidies are provided for eligible low-income seniors in MSF-funded sheltered homes. Sheltered Homes may levy charges on residents who can afford to pay.
