Comprehensive Training for Caregivers
The Basic Eldercare Course is a comprehensive training programme for caregivers including Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) to learn how to care for the seniors and manage their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
Topics Taught
The course, conducted in English, involves hands-on demonstrations and illustrations to allow learners to better understand the topics. The topics include:
- Understanding ageing
- Communicating with seniors
- Infection Control
- Understanding and monitoring vital signs
- Nutrition and Hydration
- Simple activities and exercises for seniors
- Assisting to serve oral medication to seniors
- Managing emergencies
- Day-to-day care
- Toileting
- Basic skin care
- Feeding
- Personal hygiene, bathing, grooming and dressing
- Transferring, positioning and mobility
- Fall prevention
Course fees range from $400 – $500. Eligible beneficiaries will start off with a $400 Caregivers Training Grant amount, with an annual $200 top up and unused monies can be carried forward, capped at $400 every financial year (from April to March the following year). Your loved one must be:
- Aged 65 years and above*
- Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
* If your loved one is aged below 65 years old, eligibility
will be assessed on a case-to-case basis.
The Foreign Domestic Worker:
- Should be able to speak English
- Must not have attended the Basic Eldercare Course previously
