AIC Institutional Review Board
The AIC IRB is set up to review the ethical aspects of research protocols submitted by researchers in the Intermediate-and Long-Term Care and Social Care Service Sectors. The primary objective of the AIC IRB is to safeguard the rights, safety and well-being of human research participants in these institutions.
As we are an IRB of last resort, Principal Investigators from organisations with access to any other IRBs are highly encouraged to apply to them.
Depending on the complexity of the proposed study, the review process* may take three to four months. Do note that the IRB review process will only start when the submitted documents have been assessed to be complete and in good order. To facilitate the review process, please ensure the study’s methodology aligns with any COVID-19 safe management measures (e.g. data collection, consent-taking).
Applicants are reminded NOT to commence the study until an IRB approval has been awarded.
Applications are accepted throughout the year. The AIC IRB only accepts applications from the community care and social service sectors. Principal Investigators should use the document templates available for download below:
- AIC IRB Application Form
- Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form
- Checklist For Proposed Activity
- Checklist For Institution Suitability
Principal Investigators are expected to strictly follow the submission guidelines stated in the IRB Application Form.
Softcopies of completed applications and requisite supporting documents should be submitted by email to IRB@aic.sg. For ease of reference, please use the email subject heading “AIC IRB Application – [Institution Initials]: [Simplified Study Title]” (e.g. “AIC IRB Application – SNH: Effect of XX”).
