As Singapore’s healthcare landscape continues to evolve, long-term care facilities face growing demands for more personalised and comprehensive care. The need for skilled, competent healthcare professionals who can accurately assess and address the multifaceted needs of nursing home residents has never been greater.

The ability to perform thorough, standardised assessments is critical for healthcare professionals. The InterRAI Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) assessment is widely recognised for its ability to identify risk factors – such as physical and mental health, functional abilities, social support and service utilisation. By completing an LTCF assessment, healthcare professionals in nursing home settings gain valuable insights into each resident’s health profile, which serves as the foundation for developing personalised care plans that promotes optimal outcomes for residents.

A Global Standard in Health Assessments

The InterRAI Long Term Care Facilities (LTCF) system is a globally recognised standardised assessment, comprehensively covers skills needed to evaluate the health, strengths, needs, and preference of individuals residing in nursing home settings. The InterRAI LTCF assessment is widely recognised for its ability to identify risk factors and support the creation of personalised care plans that promotes optimal outcomes for clients.

A Training Program Designed for Real-World Application

In partnership with the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) Learning Network, Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital (KWSH) has developed the InterRAI LTCF training program. KWSH’s InterRAI Training Program focuses on equipping healthcare professionals with the skills needed to become proficient InterRAI LTCF assessors. Through this program, staff learn to conduct thorough, standardised assessments that help improve both the quality of care and the overall health outcomes of clients, ensuring that healthcare professionals are fully prepared to use this critical tool.

  • Duration: 30 hours, face-to-face
  • Cost: Free for eligible nursing home care staff

Who Should Enrol?

This program is ideal for health professionals passionate about enhancing community care.

Learning outcomes includes:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the InterRAI system and its role in community health.
  • Hands-on practice with InterRAI tools for screening, including risk identification and care planning.
  • Skills for effective communication and community engagement, ensuring accessible and compassionate assessments.

Innovative Use of Generative AI in Training

A standout feature of KWSH’s InterRAI LTCF program is the integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology. Learners will have access to an interactive platform with virtual avatars representing elderly clients. These avatars simulate various health conditions, cognitive impairments, and emotional states, giving learners exposure to situations they may encounter in real-world care settings. “The use of AI avatars bridges a critical gap in training by providing realistic, yet psychologically safe, environments for learners to hone their skills,” explained Mr. William Loh, Assistant Director, Learning & Organisational Development at KWSH. “It’s a game changer that ensures learners feel confident before engaging with real clients.”

A Step Forward for Community Health

The launch of KWSH’s InterRAI Training Program marks a significant step toward enhancing community healthcare in Singapore. By equipping healthcare workers with the skills to conduct thorough, standardised assessments, KWSH are helping to ensure that elderly residents in long-term care receive the best possible care tailored to their individual needs.
