Gaining formal certification doesn’t always require traditional coursework. If you’re an experienced support care staff member, the Assessment Only Pathway (AOP) offers an alternative route to obtaining the WSQ Higher Certificate in Healthcare (Community Care) – validating your skills through assessment instead of structured training.
What is AOP?
AOP is an initiative under SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) that allows individuals to gain certification based on their existing competencies. Rather than attending full-length training, eligible professionals undergo an assessment process to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.
Since July 2024, AIC Learning Network has introduced formal WSQ-accredited programmes to train support care staff as Community Care Associates (CCAs). Now with AOP, experienced staff can take a direct assessment route to obtain WSQ certification.
HMI Institute, an SSG Continuing Education and Training Centre (CETC), is the Skills Assessment Centre appointed by AIC to facilitate this process.
Why Choose AOP?
For Community Care Organisations (CCOs), AOP is a cost-effective and efficient certification route that brings multiple benefits:
- Optimise Manpower Training Costs
AOP certifies existing skills without requiring additional external training, reducing training expenses for both individuals and employers. - Minimise Downtime for Training
Compared to traditional training, AOP allows you to gain WSQ certification while continuing to work, ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations. - Enhance Patient Care Quality
By recognising and validating the skills of experienced staff, AOP helps build a skilled and competent workforce, contributing to improved care standards and better patient care outcomes.
Who Should Apply?
The AOP is ideal for healthcare support staff and Community Care Associates (CCAs) who:
- Have relevant work experience in community care
-
Are seeking a formal qualification to boost career progression
How to be AOP ready
- Complete the self-evaluation checklist and achieve a minimum score of 60%.
- Access training materials for the AOP units upon confirmation of registration. These materials are designed to:
- Help candidates familiarise themselves with the assessment criteria and expectations.
- Provide a structured framework for reviewing key concepts and essential skills.
- Enhance candidates’ confidence and preparedness for the assessment process.
