Roles in the Sector

Organisations in the Community Care sector offer a diverse range of jobs in both clinical-related and non-clinical related roles.
Support care staff are responsible for attending to clients’ needs in their daily living activities, as well as performing basic patient care procedures accordingly to established protocols and standards of patient care and practices. They provide clinical, personal, therapy and psychosocial care, and are involved in planning and implementing the individual care plan to meet the desired well-being of their clients. Examples of support care staff include Healthcare Assistants, Basic Care Assistants, Nursing, and Therapy Aides.
Administration and operations staff play a vital role in ensuring that processes and operations in the organisation run smoothly, and resources are managed efficiently. They may be involved in programmes development and implementation, or in functional areas ranging from Human Resource and Communications to Finance and Information Technology. While they do not provide direct care to clients, they ensure that the clinical staff have the relevant resources and support they need to do their job well.
Nurses play a pivotal role in the care of individuals of all ages to achieve optimal health outcomes. Community Care nurses focus on the promotion of health and wellness, prevention of illness, and care for clients outside of acute hospitals. Building on a philosophy characterised by person-centeredness, client and family empowerment, and care continuity, the care provided by Community Care nurses goes beyond medical treatment. It includes care in other aspects of a client’s life such as personal well-being and inculcating long-term health behaviours.
Allied Health Professionals are a distinct group of health professionals who use their expertise to care for their clients and prevent disease transmission, as well as diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate people of all ages. As experts in their respective fields of practice, Allied Health Professionals are an integral part of our healthcare system. They include occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, medical social worker, and dietitians, among others.
