How can I strengthen my movements today?

Move your way to build strength today!

Everyone's starting point is different, but the more you move, the stronger you will become over time.

Senior Exercise

Whether it is a short walk, stretching, or everyday activities, every movement counts.

When you move less, your muscles slowly become weaker which worsens your balance, strength and ability to do the things you love every day.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity each week

  • Work towards exercising at least 3 days a week. Different exercises could include brisk walking, pickleball and strength training.
  • You should exercise at a pace that feel challenging but still allows you to talk comfortably with others.

Mix it up with different activities to improve strength, balance and flexibility

  • Choose a variety of activities that challenges you to move in ways that are different from your usual routine.
  • Combine different activities to improve your strength, balance and flexibility, eg regular Zumba sessions to build strength and fitness while practising yoga to improve balance and flexibility.
  • Not sure where to start because of your current fitness level or a pre-existing condition? Visit your nearest Active Ageing Centre (AAC) for beginner-friendly, lower-impact exercise programmes that can help you get stronger at your own pace.

Use fitness equipment in your daily workouts

  • Look out for outdoor fitness corners located conveniently around your neighbourhood. these machines help you safely target your different muscle groups when you exercise.
  • Many AACs also have indoor fitness equipment and staff who can guide you on how to use the equipment safely and effectively.
