Day Care provides a full day programme for seniors who are suitable for centre-based care setting, and require supervision while their caregivers are at work.

The service aims to maintain and/or improve the general, physical and social well-being of seniors through therapy. The centre also doubles as a place for seniors to socialise and take part in recreational activities.

Some day care centres also cater to specific needs:
  1. Dementia Day Care provides full day custodial care in a centre-based setting for seniors with dementia. Meaningful recreational activities (e.g. therapeutic, social and recreational) are used to engage seniors with dementia.

  2. Day Hospice Care provides a safe and supportive environment for care recipients. Daily activities and therapeutic programmes are organised to enhance quality of life.

  3. Respite Care: Caregivers can also tap on Senior Care Centres for short-term care options, such as when they need to take short breaks on an ad hoc basis during the day. This is also suitable if caregivers need additional assistance when the foreign domestic worker is not available. Care staff at the centre will provide assitance with your loved one's daily care activities such as eating or going to the toilet. Meals are provided for your loved one, and your loved one can take part in social activities such as games and karaoke sessions. Respite care is available on both weekdays and weekends. Step 2
: Contact your preferred provider

Your preferred provider will advise you on the next steps. To expedite the process, you may wish to prepare the following documents:
  • A copy of your loved one’s NRIC
  • A copy of your (the main caregiver’s) NRIC
  • Latest medical records/ hospital discharge summary of your loved one, (if available). The medical records ideally should not be older than 1 year from your application to the service.
  • Download this application form

*Note: A doctor’s referral is not required for the application. However, please check with the day care centre you are applying to if they require other documents.

You should submit the application form and relevant documents to the preferred provider at least 8 working days before the date you wish to use the service. Preparing earlier will ensure that you have sufficient time to work out the necessary arrangements with your preferred centre. You can submit the documents by email, or deliver the documents in person. If you need help in completing the application form, you may contact the centre for assistance.

Step 3
: Prepare for the pre-admission assessment

Upon receiving your application, the centre will contact you to arrange for a pre-admission assessment with both you and your loved one at the centre.

This session is to allow the centre to better understand the needs of you and your loved one. The centre will also share if there are other considerations and requirements before your loved one is enrolled into the service.
